Our Neighbors
Folks here in southern Indiana are doing all sorts of neat things. Here are a few highlights we find especially interesting:
Looking for More Tasty, Local Food?
Plumer & Bowers Farmstead - We've gotten to know Dennis and Tricia through the Seymour Farmer's Market, and their story resonates with us. They, too, have returned home to the family farm and are in the process of converting from conventional row crops to pasture. If you're looking for grass-fed beef, popcorn, or locally grown and ground whole wheat flour, look no farther than their family farm.
Splinter Ridge Farm - Need veggies in Madison? Jesse and Cheryl have you covered. These two grow incredible veggies AND care for the land. We think you will love their food and their sense of community.
The Taproom - Visiting Madison for the day or the week? Swing by the Taproom for lots of tasty beverages - and you'll find our eggs on the menu for Sunday brunch and dinner specials. These folks have been tried and true customers for years, and we couldn't be happier to be part of their world.
Upland Pumphouse - Our go to for a local brew AND local food. We've been selling whole chickens to Upland since Spring 2017, and it's a high value partnership: they're spreading the good word that local matters to your taste buds and your community, we're selling our food, and customers are eating fantastic dishes (have you tried the nachos with chicken...that's our chicken!).
Bloomington Farm Stop Collective & Bethel Lane Farm Stop - If you're in the Bloomington area, find our chicken, eggs, and turkey for sale at these "farm stops" -- farmer-drive markets that feature loads of local products, from meat and eggs to bagels, cheese, maple syrup, veggies, and so much more. We deliver once per month, and we're so grateful to be part of these very active marketplaces - and communities of growers!
Want to Take Care of Your Mind and Body?
Is it time for some Yoga - Our friends at Uptown Yoga in Columbus and Yoga in Madison offer affordable classes, beautiful spaces (!), and high quality instructors. Eat good food and then engage your body with yoga!
Village Lights Bookstore - We read constantly - on breaks, on the porch, in bed. Village Lights in Madison is our go-to for books. They can get you just about anything (speaking from experience!) and they're always game to talk books. We love their store.
Want to Learn More About Agriculture?
Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition - If you're a young farmer or ally, join this group! These are young and beginning sustainable farmers in Indiana looking to connect, collaborate and interact with one another. Farming is tough work, especially in the beginning years, and we provide a community of like minded and similarly engaged peers to help ensure young and beginning farmers find success in Indiana, and have some fun along the way!
Edible Indy - A fantastic quarterly reporting on food in the Indy area (but really, all around Indiana). It's free. Check it out here.
